Wine Law

454 WINE LAW paradigms that guide national and provincial policies to protect and promote the equity and wellbeing of the participants of the value chain. Notwithstanding the political or ideological debates, we consider that the representation and participation of the sector within COVIAR’s scope has facilitated the necessary consensus required by the public authorities to legitimise regulations and proper policies that fall under their competence and powers. COVIAR is a social innovation and a State policy and, since its creation, there have been profound changes: Argentine Wine’s image has improved worldwide, the wine production chain increased from 200 million dollars in exports to more than 1,000 million. Furthermore, Argentina is producing, nowadays, the best wines it has ever produced, with a new generation of agronomists and enologists who compete at a worldwide level and one-third of the wine deliveries to the internal market coming from producers who belong to the Cooperatives. The regionalisation of Argentine wine has begun, not only regarding variety but also areas, and wine-tourism is the most significant change in the base of production in our region (more than 2 million visitors a year). It is also worth mentioning that we are the first grape juice exporter in the world. The Argentine viticulture faces some strong changing scenarios, with new consumption trends, water scarcity and the development of wine-tourism being three of the most critical challenges the PEVI has to deal with. It is coordinated by INTA professionals, who plan foreseeing innovation, as well as social and environmental sustainability, and promoting a wide territorial and sectorial participation from all the Argentine viticulture. We are in the presence of a real State policy.
