CONTEXT In the context of the establishment of the new book by ESHTE and other universities, Competition Law in Tourism, the Competition Council was invited to provide its contribution in this area.The purpose of this document is to present the Council’s activities in the tourism sector. 1. THE TOURISM SECTOR IN LUXEMBOURG Over the decades, tourism has developed steadily and diversified to become one of the fastestgrowing economic sectors in the world, and with considerable direct and indirect1 economic impact, tourism creates both financial income and employment. In 2018, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)2 estimated that the direct and indirect contribution, concerning the “travel and tourism” sector, to Luxembourg’s GDP, was 8.7%. The tourism sector added up to 33,000 jobs directly or indirectly related.
