THE IMPORTANCE OF TOURISM FOR CROATIAN ECONOMY In the Republic of Croatia, tourism is the most important branch of the economy and an essential factor of the country’s economic development, with the share of tourism in the overall economy being 19.5% in 2019. In Croatia’s total GDP, this sector’s share increases every year, with the ratio of travel receipts to GDP being (before the COVID-19 pandemic), among the EU Member States, the highest in Croatia.
