INSTITUTIONAL ORGANISATION In Denmark, tourism is organised at two levels: a national level and a decentralised level. The Ministry of Trade is responsible for the field of tourism. The Ministry has set up the National Tourism Forum to manage the public promotion of tourism3. Moreover, the Ministry has set up the institution VisitDenmark to manage the international promotion of Danish tourism4. The Forum formulates the national strategy for tourism. Three development companies refer to this Forum. The three of them represent specific areas of tourism: coast and nature tourism, big city tourism and business and meeting tourism. The decentralised level consists of a number of destination companies anchored in the local authorities. One of these destination companies is Wonderful Copenhagen. 3. ACCOMMODATION The following section will mainly focus on the Danish special provisions on private accommodation. The rise of platforms like Airbnb has made it relevant to regulate the area with this new business model in mind. 3.1. Professional accommodation Businesses under the concept of traditional hotels do not need a trade license in order to conduct their business in Denmark. However, there are some restrictions on property that have to be complied with. The concept of “hotel” and the exemption of hotels from a license requirement are found in the Law of Letting of Property for the Purposes of Holiday and Leisure, etc., Article 1.55.
