THE INTERNATIONAL CODE FOR THE PROTECTION OF TOURISTS 366 3 - ensure that the accommodation service provider does not increase the room rates for the extra nights; 4 - ensure that the accommodation service provider does not request cancellation fees; 5 - provide rescue and communication services, food and shelter, visa or any other appropriate permission, transportation, basic medicines and emergency health care; 6 - waive administrative sanctions or penalties on other countries’ nationals, insofar as they overstay and are unable to leave their territory due to travel restrictions; 7 - carry out additional necessary operational measures (e.g. coordinated evacuation, provision of emergency and security staff, provision of health and medical services). The country where the tourist contract is concluded must: 8 - promote that tourist contracts provide insurance schemes or guarantee systems which cover the risks resulting from emergencies (i.e. pandemics: assistance and repatriation, treatment costs, cancellations and reimbursements). The tourism service providers must: 9 - communicate immediately with the host country authorities, which should activate a direct communication channel with tourism service providers, their local representatives or local agency, in order to coordinate the assistance to tourists. Subsection iv): Repatriation For both countries: 1 - make available to the respective diplomatic and consular authorities: i) general circumstances of the emergency situation; ii) affected geographical areas; iii) number and nationalities of tourists in the affected area; iv) identity and personal data of the tourist; v) health condition, location and general situation; vi) data of any casualties; vii) operational measures; and viii) other related data. 2 - cooperate with third countries in facilitating necessary operational measures, including the tourist’s transit and repatriation. For the host country: 3 - ensure the repatriation of tourists, in the same way as the citizens of the country;
