Some Insights We can extract some general guiding principles on regulatory intervention from the application of efficient economic regulation principles onto short-term housing rentals: Firstly, regulators should not automatically extend traditional regulation onto new business models. Rather, new technologies and more competition should lead to a review of the appropriateness of traditional regulatory tools and restrictions. Secondly, regulation has to favour consumers and citizens. It should not seek to protect incumbents or to regulate supply.
