Abstract This paper analyses the use of Information and Communication Technologies (hereinafter, ICT) as a means to achieve sustainable tourism development. In this sense, the concept of intelligent tourism must go beyond the mere use of this technology to increase economic returns, which should help to maintain the carrying capacity, respect the environment and the social and cultural environment of the destination.
